CoFestival is one of the central Slovenian and regional dance festivals, created as a co-production between the public institution Centre for Urban Culture Kino Šiška and the non-governmental organization Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia. We have been creating it since 2012. The current curatorial team consists of Dragana Alfirević, Mitja Bravhar, and Rok Vevar; in the past, Jasmina Založnik, Dejan Srhoj, Irena Tomažin Zagoričnik, Goran Bogdanovski, and others also collaborated on the festival.

After more than a decade of leading regular weekly dance training sessions for the Composition of Differences, Dejan Srhoj is opening a new year-round group. Training sessions will take place every Tuesday from 18:00 to 20:30 in the Great Hall of the Tabor Student Residence (Kotnikova ulica 4, Ljubljana).

In the second half of 2011, members of the Balkan dance network Nomad Dance Academy met in Skopje (North Macedonia) to develop a pedagogical program within an EU project then called Jardin d’Europe, as part of a program segment titled Teaching the Teachers. The aim was to create a teaching format that would involve multiple teachers simultaneously in a studio setting and connect practical work with the history and theory of dance. We created a pedagogical dance format that we named Coteaching.

My colleague and I have been collaborating with the members of the Pokretnica collective for twelve years. Over the years, this collaboration has taken various forms, culminating in 2024 with their invitation to co-create a performance in Novi Sad. We then returned the invitation: let's conceive and create a performance together! And we asked ourselves whether, and in what way, this invitation would change the working and personal relationships between us.

Mapping is the process of observing the city as a performance. The observer is invited to translate the everyday movements, sounds, conversations, and objects in the city into fiction; the city streets become a stage set, and everyday movements become a choreography. Thus, every observed event becomes a story of a specific point in the city at a precisely measured moment in time. This is a way of appropriating the city, which is always there where you are not.

In 2022, Dejan Srhoj created An Evening of Dance Solos, a dance puzzle composed of three collaborations and research processes with artists from different media, poetics, and aesthetics. Three years later, An Evening of Dance Solos II comes before the audience. The form, as well as the paradoxes of collaboration, remain similar, yet in the meantime the world has caught fire and humanity has split apart. At the same time – sometimes at insane speed, other times with unbearable slowness – the deepest plunges into the abyss of monstrosity and the most wondrous quantum leaps are taking place. We are all, at this moment, tightrope walkers balanced on the line between an ending and a new beginning.

Three performances, research processes and co-authorial journeys are revealed behind a name that evokes a performance form almost doomed to the past. Their common denominator and common thread is the choreographer and dancer Dejan Srhoj, who has invited artists to collaborate with him who – each from their own medium, poetics and aesthetics – open up new aspects of their own work through their joint research.

The author bestows the robot with a contemporary form of a romantic identity, thus repeating the first such gesture made in the history of the fantasy literary genre by Mary Shelley with Frankenstein, though perhaps with only a slightly ironic and humorous twist this time. Srhoj is interested exactly in the hypothetical twist in which technophobia becomes profane and the robot acquires a human subjectivity, including all the bizarreness that it is usually accused of.
