Advocacy

Based on our guiding principle that “everything is education,” and that we continuously learn and share knowledge through all the projects and processes we develop, we gathered on November 8th and 9th, 2012, in Skopje, Macedonia.

In 2012, Nomad Dance Academy gathered partners, supporters, decision-makers, and the broader artistic community from the Balkans and its neighborhood in Skopje, North Macedonia, to discuss and explore possibilities for improving cultural policies, ensuring sustainable development of local scenes, and strengthening cooperation within the region and beyond. To continue these efforts, the Balkan network Nomad Dance Academy organized Dance Advocates – the second contemporary dance advocacy meeting, which took place from May 13th to 15th, 2015, in Sofia.

The contemporary dance scene in Serbia has been growing since 1995, with or without local support, yet continuously evolving. Its various actors – organizations, artists, cultural producers, theorists, dance activists – have succeeded in creating conditions for informal education, the production of new works, the visits and work of international artists in Serbia, visits from international experts who spread the word about Serbian dance artists, and the arrival of new generations who continue to build and share knowledge and experience.

A group of EDN network members joined the Kino Šiška team and members of the Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia on a bus tour of the Balkans. This was followed by meetings with local institutions, cultural workers, and artists on the way through Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Skopje, and Sofia...

From April 7th to 10th, 2019, we organized and led the international NORSE conference (Network of Residencies in South-East Europe), which brought together 60 representatives of municipal authorities as well as artists, theorists, and producers, with the goal of establishing a residency network in the field of contemporary performing arts.

The Nomad Dance Advocacy Conference: Choreographic Convention – Bodies in Free Fall, held from November 19th to 23rd across various locations in Zagreb, was realized in partnership between Antisezona and the regional Nomad Dance Academy network as part of the EU project Life Long Burning 3 – Futures Lost and Found.
